Fun fact: We call this a Travel Bag, but they originated as Toilet Kits/Toilet Bags: small leather toilet bags used for men’s grooming tools/toiletries for use when traveling. This bag eventually came to be known as a Dopp Kit/Dopp Bag/Travel Bags. The name Dopp Kit/Dopp Bag comes from an early 20th century leather craftsman Charles Doppelt, whose company designed the case in 1926. These toiletry kits had been issued by the US military services during World War I. "Toiletry" and "Dopp" kits became synonymous when the military issued thousands of them through World War II. Its popularity grew from there, especially when the name officially changed from “toilet bag” to Dopp Kit/Dopp Bag and the civilians went wild for them! Samsonite ended up buying the Dopp name in in the 70’s, and eventually acquired by Buxton in 1979.

Today this bag is still as popular as ever, and depending on the bag, materials, and construction, can be considered an item of richness and prosperity, along with other extremely high-end, luxury, personal leather goods.
